Water used for flushing urine (liquid human waste is over 95% liquid) increases the volume of sewage generated in cities. Also the use of hard water for flushing urine leads to scale. Formation causing blockages in drainage lines.

Flush free urinals produce less bacteria than flushing. Urine is sterile when it leaves the body but produces bacteria when it mixes with water. The flushing process throws up a whoosh of bacteria which sticks to walls and anything else in the bathroom.

Urine is a waste product produced in the kidneys that filters out the harmful byproducts produced in the body. Since it is a waste product, it can contain various salts, trace amount of hormones, proteins, carbohydrates, fatty acids and a nitrogen containing component called urea.

After urination, residual urine gets accumulated in the drain pipe of urinals. The components in urine have a natural odor to them because of the various chemical components in it. Presence of ammonium & sulphur compounds and microbial degradation of urine generates volatile chemicals & gases with foul smell. These gases exits through the urinal holes and causes smell in toilets & washrooms.

Traditional method of removing odour is flushing of urinal pan with water, which dilutes & transport the urine into main line from drain pipe. However it imposes huge requirement of cleaning water.
